Missions and Salsa

It is now our tradition to travel to a US-City during a long weekend in spring. This time, from April 24 to 28, 2004, we went down South for San Antonio in Texas. We spent there the last weekend  of their annual festival. This gave us the opportunity to watch the famous parade "Battle of the Flowers" in this city which is influenced by its spanisch-mexican-german(!) heritage.

Of course, San Antonio offers more: the unique Riverwalk, a walkway on both sides of the rainwater canal in downtown with numerous restaurants and pubs as well as lots of chips and salsa; the dreamy King William District, where many buildings date back to the first German immigrants; and the Mission Trail, a Spanish trade trail with as many as five old missions including the famous Alamo in downtown.
